Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Respite Services
Community Carers NSW are dedicated to providing high-quality Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Respite Services that enable individuals with disabilities to live as independently as possible while receiving the support they need.
Our Short-Term Accommodation (STA) and Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA) services, funded through the NDIS, offer safe, accessible, and fully supported environments tailored to each participant’s needs.

Benefits of Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Respite Services

Increased
Independence
Our SIL services foster independence, allowing participants to live in their own home and make decisions about their care.

Carer Relief
Respite services give carers the time they need to rest and recharge, ensuring they can continue to provide the best care.

Comprehensive
Support
Whether it’s 24/7 care or short-term assistance, we provide the level of support that each individual requires.
Real Life Example
Liam, who has an intellectual disability, lives in his home with SIL services, where he receives support with cooking, cleaning, and personal care. His family benefits from the respite services we offer, knowing that Liam is well cared for and his needs are met.

-
Q. Can I change my care plan?A. Absolutely! We regularly review and adjust care plans to ensure they continue to meet your evolving needs.
Short-Term Accommodation (STA)
– Temporary Respite Support
Our STA services provide a short-term, fully supported stay in a comfortable, wheelchair-accessible environment for individuals who require temporary care or respite.
STA funding covers:
-
Accommodation in a fully equipped, accessible setting
-
24/7 support from qualified disability support staff
-
Meals, personal care, and assistance with daily activities
-
Transport for community participation and medical appointments

STA may be suitable for:
Participants requiring short-term respite from their usual home environment
Emergency accommodation needs
Transitional support before moving into SIL or another living arrangement
Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA)
– Temporary Housing for Transitioning to Long-Term Living
Unlike STA, MTA is not a standalone NDIS support, but rather part of a participant’s home and living support needs. MTA is funded for up to 90 days as a temporary solution while participants transition to long-term housing arrangements.
MTA funding covers:
-
The cost of accommodation only for up to 90 days
-
Temporary housing while awaiting SIL placement, Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), or home modifications

MTA does not cover:
Daily living expenses (e.g., food, internet, electricity)
Personal care or other support services—these must be funded separately through an NDIS plan
MTA is not emergency housing or a recurring support—it is designed for participants who have a confirmed long-term housing plan in place but need temporary accommodation while waiting for their permanent home. To access MTA, participants should discuss their home and living goals with their Support Coordinator or NDIS planner to determine their eligibility.
